Seafood consumption is a great way to increase your health. In fact, eating healthy seafood can actually prevent, even reverse the effects of heart disease. This makes scallops a healthy option when compared to how many calories is found in chicken, beef, and pork. That is not to say that you will never be able to enjoy these meats again. However, you should add more seafood and less poultry and beef tor your dinner menu.

Mussels are an inexpensive yet healthy seafood option. You can incorporate mussels into several recipes for a tasty lunch of dinner. Again, when you consume about a pound of mussels, you are consuming less than 100 calories and just less than 2 grams of fat. Therefore, mussels can be eaten in higher quantities than other types of seafood. Make sure that when you buy mussels, their shells are intact. Never buy mussels with chipped or broken shells. You want clean, fresh looking mussels with shells intact so that you can ensure that they are not dead when you buy them.

Yet another healthy seafood option is clams. Clams can be incorporated into several tasteful dishes such as clam chowder, clam soup, and even linguine. Clams are a popular choice and like mussels, are available in a shell. Again, you will want to make sure that the clams are intact. Chipped or broken clamshells need to be discarded immediately. Fresh clam dishes are some of the most flavorful dishes you can add to your menu so do not be afraid to experiment with different clam dishes until you find something that you and your family will enjoy. You may find yourself liking seafood more than you ever enjoyed beef and poultry.
